A QUESTION OF GOLD PIECES!

(Revised 3/22/00)

"How many gold pieces do I have?" Here is the answer to that oft-asked question: It depends on your rank or status.

Below you will find a list of ranks preceeded by a cryptic looking math problem. The "math problem" is an RPG (Role-Playing Game) abbreviation. Take the first number and add it to the number you roll on the dice indicated after the plus sign. (I.e., 1+1d4 would give from 2 to 5 gold pieces, 1d4 being a four-sided die.) If you do not understand or do not own any of these polyhedral dice, message Dragonlord Krin at Legend@malcor.com and she'll be glad to roll for you.

Now here comes the good news: Every other time we hold an online RP session you get to roll for a new pocketful of gold pieces. That means you get to roll six times every year. If there are special events that also allow you to roll for gold pieces (a group story that involves caravaneers, for example) you will be notified by Dragonlord Krin (Legend@malcor.com).

This will be on the honor system, so each person needs to keep track of the gold pieces rolled for his/her persona and NPCs (though you should really only worry about the ones that show up at the "live" events). And you will probably be able to "earn" additional gold pieces in the future by selling things you have to other folks or by offering your services to someone in need.

We are still looking for a "Banker" to maintain a database for the club. (This is a service, not a game title--we don't actually have a little cubby for her to sit in and act as teller <g>.) If you are interested in the position, contact Dragonlord Krin at Legend@malcor.com. For all of you who keep loosing the scrap of paper you wrote your gold pieces on, or accidentally overwriting the file ("That's not important--oops . . . "), when we do get a banker you will e-mail your gold pieces to that person, who will help you keep track of everything!

It is especially important for those of you that are maintaining racing strings and stock to work with the banker--Dragonlord Krin will be notifying the banker of race entry fees, breeding costs and earnings and race purses. The banker will be keeping track of purchases made at events. You cannot spend more than you actually have! No loans from the Bank of Dumnonia <G>! So if you are ever in doubt of what you have, ask!

REMINDER: Money earned by a Bonded Dragon goes into the Rider's account so the Rider can meet the Dragon's expenses. Expenses for a Bonded Dragon are deducted from the Rider's account.

NOTES:

*"Children" includes all youngsters before their twelfth natal day. After that, they become Servants, unless they choose some other profession or path for their lives.

You will note that several groups of children are listed above the base 1+1d4. These listings only get to roll at the higher level until they either:

  1. reach majority (12 years)
  2. become a squire
  3. enter a Guilder or Wizard apprenticeship
  4. join a religious order as an acolyte or initiate or
  5. marry

In the last case, if the marriage has been arranged for a particular age of both participants, the parents/guardians may choose to support the child at their prior level until the marriage takes place. Their may be other occassions that will raise an exception, but check with me for a judgement call.

"Other" children refer to non-heirs, and only apply to children of cottagers, Lesser Nobles, and Lords/Ladies. *"Primary Mates" refers to husbands/wives that have no other profession besides being a husband or wife.

Remember that cottagers, Lesser Nobles, and Lords/Ladies may or may not designate their Primary Mate as a co-equal. If the Primary Mate is designated as a co-equal, then that Primary Mate rolls at the same rank as the Noble (for example: Lady Hana rolls at the same rank level as Lord Janix). Naming the Primary Mate as a co-equal has no bearing on inheritance of the castle, manor or cottage--inheritance always follows the bloodline.

Mates not listed as co-equal roll at the same level as "Secondary" Mates.

"Secondary" in this case means a second (or more) wife/husband at the same time as the primary Mate--remember Centuria does not frown on polygamy/polyandry.

*Guilders is the catchall for those Guilders (and their Mates and children) who are not listed elsewhere on the charts.

*Non-BeastGuilder Full-Time Jockeys are those jockeys that have made a profession of their hobby, never taking the time to study with a Beast Guild. They race everytime their is a meet (usually at least once a sevenday), and they race every race at that meet unless circumstances dictate otherwise.

*Retirees are those folks that for whatever reason are no longer able to perform a function at their location (retired Lords/Ladies; blinded, crippled or really elderly individuals who cannot or who chose not to be Healed; Guilders that have suffered debilitating injuries or suffer illnesses that Healers cannot Heal, etc.). If you think that your NPC or Persona would be a retiree, please check with Dragonlord Krin at Legend@malcor.com.

If a rank is missing or you have some doubt as to where you fall in the list, ask Dragonlord Krin at Legend@malcor.com.!

ROLLING STARTING GOLD PIECES

Yes, it is possible to figure out how many gold pieces a given character had at the start of play. Not fun, but possible. If you are interested, please message Dragonlord Krin at Legend@malcor.com for the Banker's Manual.

A LITTLE INFORMATION ABOUT GOLD PIECES

What is a "gold piece" anyway?

Gold pieces are gold coins. Each coin weighs one-tenth of a pound. Galantites produce all the coins on the world. Coin values are as follows:

There are no coins made from any other metals. Most trade is handles with gems or on a barter basis.

Moneychangers set the actual value of the coins for any given area. For instance, money is worth only about one tenth as much in Tor as it is in Krillion.

How many gold pieces are in circulation?

No one knows. Dragons have been hoarding coins all over the planet for centuries. Raiders steal coins from Cinnamarians on a regular basis. It's generally possible to find the money you need if you're willing to risk your life for it.

WHAT A GOLD PIECE WILL BUY?

So you can rough out what you spend while you are on leave or during an RP Session, here is the buying power of a gold piece. If you know of any prices not listed here or wish to purchase something not listed, e-mail them to Draognlord Krin (Legend@malcor.com) to get it added to the list!

If you sell products through a caravan (i.e., you made an item and wish the caravaneer to sell it for you), you will be charge a 1/2 gold piece for the service.

If you have any questions, just ask Dragonlord Krin (Legend@malcor.com)!
