Lancelot and Guinevere might be the best-known Arthurian lovers today, but Tristan and Isolde were the favorites of medieval audiences. People wove images of the star-crossed pair into quilts, carved them into combs, and depicted them on the back of handmirrors. In other words, the story of Tristan struck a deep chord with medieveal audiences, and they wanted images from the tale on their personal items, the things they would see and use the most.
