Children and Religion
Here are some books that have been recommmended to me by Christen Education Directors and other sources.
Series
Children's Bibles
Baby's First Bible
- This fabulous little bible comes with a sturdy handle that's just the perfect size for a toddler to carry. Excellent, brief directions for learning activities accompany each story.
The Children's Bible in 365 Storie
- This is an excellent resource for Kindergarten through Third/Fourth Grade. The stories are more like "chapters" and run about a page-and-a half in length, which makes them perfect for reading during snack time or after dinner. There are about four or so "chapters" for every major story division, which is a good length for a bedtime story.
Golden Children's Bible: The Old Testament and the New Testament
- Formerly known as The Children's Bible, this publication was reissued in 1999. This is the Bible I grew up with, and I'll always love the bold pictures that accompany each story.
Nonfiction
The Power of God at Home: Nurturing Our Children in Love and Grace
- Bradley Wigger's highly acclaimed book about faith and parenting.
Additional Resources
The Revised Common Lectionary: Consultation on Common Texts: Includes Complete List of Lections for Years A, B, and C
- Not a children's book itself, but many curricula for Sunday School are based off this pattern of reading the Scriptures.
Children's Sermons for the Revised Common Lectionary: Year A : Using the 5 Senses to Tell God's Story (Children's Sermons for the Revised Common Lectionary)
- An excellent resource from Philip D. Schroeder.
Children's Sermons for the Revised Common Lectionary - Year B: Year B : Using the 5 Senses to Tell God's Story (Children's Sermons for the Revised Common Lectionary)
- Volume 2 in this wonderful series.
Children's Sermons for the Revised Common Lectionary, Year C: Using the 5 Senses to Tell God's Story (Children's Sermons for the Revised Common Lectionary)
- The third and final volume in the series.
