Mission

Following the risen Christ and seeking to make the church a true community of hospitality, the mission of More Light Presbyterians, Inc. is to work for the full participation of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people of faith in the life, ministry and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Objectives

To achieve its Mission, MLP seeks:

  1. to educate nurture and support individuals, chapters, fellowships, congregations and governing bodies who are affiliated with MLP;
  2. To explore, study and appreciate the values of our gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender heritage and develop new ministries between the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community;
  3. To work within the governing bodies of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) for a heightened consciousness of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, their Christian faith commitment and the goodness of their God-created being;
  4. To encourage and aid the development and distribution of Biblical and theological resources on human sexuality issues;
  5. To facilitate, by distribution of educational materials and otherwise, the intelligent consideration by Presbyterian governing bodies of support for legislation prohibiting discrimination on the basis of gender identity, affectional preference and sexual orientation, and for legislation deleting restrictions on private sexual behavior between consenting adults; and
  6. To cooperate ecumenically with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender organizations of other denominations and with interdenominational organizations addressing themselves to issues of relations between lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons and the Church.

Membership

Individual membership in MLP shall be open to any member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) who submits an annual affirmation of support for the mission of MLP as set forth in Article II (Mission), promises to work for the transformation of the Church and pay annual dues to MLP in an amount determined by the Board of Directors.*

Governing body membership shall be open to any governing body of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) that submits an annual affirmation of support for the mission of MLP as set forth in Article II (Mission), promises to work for the transformation of the Church, and pays annual dues to MLP in an amount determined by the Board of Directors.**

* For individuals, dues are set at $50 per annum or whatever an individual can afford.

** For congregations and governing bodies, dues are set at $100 per annum, or whatever the body can afford.
