Greetings!
For our upcoming event we have a tremendous amount of things going on (See above <g>). To have some idea about what the wedding service will be like, read the story about Kris and Jalla's wedding in the last 'zine. We've shown people advancing to Journeyman and Master in some of the logs, but we have not yet shown someone apprenticing as a Fighter. So I thought I'd take the opportunity provided for this newsletter to talk a bit about that.
When someone becomes a Journeyman or a Master, they are advancing in rank within a Guild. That's a completely different situation from the one in which someone apprentices as a Fighter, a non-Guilder profession. If Kasie were undertaking this responsibility at a castle and attaching to a knight, she would be known as a "squire." Notions of what a medieval squire is and does are pretty accurate in this instance. But Kasie resides at a Base Camp as fosterling to Dragonlord Krin and Dragonrider Jilian, and she has no wish to undertake her training away from Dragons or their Riders. In Daethian culture, Kasie's background, she would normally leave her foster parents and go to live with whatever warrior agreed to train her. Or she might sign on with a mercenary unit or join the regular Daethian army. The point is that she usually would be expected to leave her family unit to acquire her training.
Kasie is not living in a Daethian cultural unit, however. She is living among Dragonriders who still base their culture on that of Dumnonia even though this particular century is no longer stationed in the desert. Kasie would ultimately like to become a Dragonrider herself, so she has even more motivation for wishing to train in the Dumnonian manner.
Dumnonians are usually raised by foster parents rather than by blood relations. These foster parents tend to bring up children in much the same manner that Riders bring up young Dragons. Some fosterers have huge numbers of children whom they parent from an early age. In such cases, a child would definitely leave the foster parent, just as a Hatchling leaves a Dragonlord's care and passes to a Rider as a Stripling. But when the family unit is small, such as occurs among many of the support personnel and the caravaneers, then the child can apprentice under, say, the sahib of the caravan or the aide for a Dragonlord, depending on what the individual wanted to do with his or her life.
Some years back, Shashtah Dragonheart set a very unusual precedent by raising fosterlings while he was a Dragonrider and a Dragonlord, and he continues this practice now that he has become Dragonking. That's what has made things possible such as Dragonrider Yarrow raising her twins and Dragonlord Krin and Rider Jilian fostering Kasie. This means that Kasie has several options available to her.
Given the character, Kasie is unlikely to apprentice at a castle or leave to join an army or other military unit. Nor is she likely to hire on with a unit such as Kellen's caravan as a fighter, since she really wants to ride a Dragon some day. That narrows her possibilities considerably. If she wanted to leave Krin's Base Camp, she could apprentice to someone in, say, the King's Camp or in another century. But since Kasie is a Daethian and barred from Bonding with a True Bronze, she is very likely to wind up serving in either a century like Krin's or like Rainier's. Since she's already comfortable where she is, she probably will not leave Krin's Base Camp.
That narrows her options further. She could apprentice to any of the warriors or Dragonriders in Krin's Base Camp, including either of her foster fathers. The warriors in the Camp do not practice skills that would be particularly useful to a Dragonrider, so she will probably pass over them. Of the Riders, her foster father, Krin, is a Dragonlord and is horribly busy. She probably will give him a break and not chose to apprentice to him
To find out if that's what happens and to witness the ceremony, come to the RP on Monday night in Delphi at 7 PST! (Non-members must join the club by creating or adopting a character in order to attend.)

Dragonlords' T-shirt
Since no designs have been submitted for a club T-shirt, we have put this project on hold until at least two designs are submitted.
If you would like to submit a design for the club T-shirt, send your suggestion in .gif or .jpg format to Dragonlord Krin at Legend@malcor.com. Try to keep your design suggestions to four colors or less, since that will significantly cut our costs.
As soon as two submissions are received, Krin will put the suggestions up on a webpage so we can vote on what we like best. Once the design is chosen, Krin will put up a sign-up sheet so we can see how many people actually want the shirts. Pricing will vary, depending on how many shirts are ordered.

Until next forum,
keep safe!
