Border Art Border Art Dear Misty Fans,

Misty's birthday is June 24

(Larry's is July 28). Cards can be sent to them at Highflight [Ed. note 2005: Out-of-date info withheld.]. if you would like to do more than send a card, consider a donation to The Alex Foundation, [Ed. note 2005: Out-of-date info withheld.].

Alex is an African Grey Parrot who actually speaks more than a hundred words and understands their meaning. To learn more about how scientists investigate animal thinking and communication, order Alex and FriendsThe Alex Foudation.

A new video, Training Your Parrot the Alex Way, is available from Bird Lady Productions, [Ed. note 2005: Out-of-date info withheld.].

It's time for you to meet the future president of Queen's Own. As of September 1998, Robin Ready will take over the leadership of the Mercedes Lackey Fan Club. Robin says "I was born in Madison, WI, over 21 years ago . . . (more like 30, but who's counting???). While I wasn't a military 'child,' my parents did move around a lot, and I've seen much of these United States. I do love to travel and see new sights, also meeting new people is a definite plus.

"As far back as I can remember, I've always loved animals, but horses are my special love. I learned to ride when I was 10 years old and was bringing home ribbons by age 12 (okay, only two blue ones). Someday when I'm rich and retired, I'll own my own horse, but until then . . . I ride every chance I get.

"I'm currently working on a degree to be a Zoologist. I've taken a semester off to settle down here in California for awhile. I currently work for Prudential HealthCare in Los Angeles, CA and am finding it a rewarding job. Also, my best friends and I are starting a business involving jewelry and costuming for hte Renaissance era. We currently cater to the SCA mindset . . . if interested, our web site should be up and running soon!!! (plug, plug).

"I am currently engaged to a wonderful man named Jason, who puts up with all my faults (no, I don't walk on water . . . yet!). We have a tentative date for June of this year to make it official. If any of you were at Dragon*Con '97, and in the Queen's Own Suite you may have seen our handfasting. Those of you that are familiar with ARrows Online might already know Jason. He's an officer of that club.

"I'm thrilled to be able to take over this newsletter. I only hope I can run it as smoothly as our wonderful Herald Housemother. She's an amazing lady. While I know I can't fill her shoes, I will try to do her justice.

"I do plan to make some minor changes to the newsletter. First of all, it will become available in e-mail format for a reduced membership fee (once I ensure that there will be no problems iwth the formatting transfer to e-mail and MAC systems.). The name will be changed to Merging of the Ways to hopefully encompass all of Misty's wonderful worlds that we love so much. Also, I'm thinking of incentives to encourage submissions to the 'zines (these I have yet to fully explore, but rest assured, they will be worth it!!). Membership is my primary goal, and ensuring that this transition is as smooth as possible. Do not hesitate to write or e-mail me wtih comments, suggestions, ideas . . . etc. This is your club, ladies and gentlemen, so your ideas are worth hearing."

Send your ideas to Robin at Queens Own--Merging of the Ways (MTW) [Ed. note 2005: Out-of-date info withheld.]. Dues and information for the June and August newsletters should be sent to the Shiloh address.

Collegium News:

Are you interested in creating a persona who will be recognized in the QO newsletter? All it takes is your imagination and your time. Develop your persona by daydreaming yourself into the world of Velgarth. you can be the real you or as different as you please. Write at least three pages about yourself; what are your emotional characteristics? what do you look like? what makes you happy? what are you afraid of?

Now, create your family and friends. Describe their likes and dislikes, your relationship to them, their strongest character traits. Again, write at least three pages. (A page should be double-spaced, on one side of 8.5 x 11 inch paper or a similar size. If you have to handwrite or print your material, please be as neat as possible.)

Extra point requirements vary depending on what role you've chosen for yourself. Each category has requirements that will add to the growth of your character. All of us can be a volunteer and learn CPR, and many of us can be a regular blood donor.

Send a SASE to the QO address for specific handouts--Herald, Healer, Bard, Mercenary, Shin'a'in. Tayledras, White Winds Sorcerer/ess--with more information and a release form so you can write a story set in Misty's world. (Biographical information, even in the form of a story, does not need a release form.)

Come, enroll in the Collegium!
