Heyla, Misty fans!

June turned out to be a little more chaotic than either of us had planned. Danya’s mother had thyroid surgery, Danya and her three children all got sick (Her husband stayed well fortunately), Moonstar moved, Danya went on vacation, Moonstar started divorce proceedings and Danya’s mother sold her home. Add all that on top of what we normally have going on in our lives, and we turned into two rather overworked women . That means that a few things (such as the coding of past newsletters for our website) got put on hold. We’re finally getting caught up on our mail.

The chatlists (both the QO chat list and the Pending list) hit some bug and were accidentally deleted. We are still trying to fix them. Hopefully we will have everyone resubscribed soon. There may be a few glitches, though, where some of you are accidentally dropped. If that happens to you, simply resubscribe to the list. We’ll sort out duplicate subscriptions on the administrative end. Also, if you wind up on a list you don’t want to be on, simply let us know, and we’ll remove you as soon as we can.

We missed having our Midsummer Festival this year, so we’re going to use that event as the centerpiece for our first online RPG, which will be held in our private Delphi chatroom. The event will be on a Monday, most likely at 7 PM PDT. We haven’t settled on the exact date yet. We’ll let you all know via e-invitation when we have the details worked out. Keep watch on the QO website for details about the rules for participating, a description of the fictional setting, and other items of interest related to this topic.

Starting with this issue, we will no longer be publishing Fan Messages. We haven’t been asked to post any new ones for many months now, so there doesn’t seem to be interest in that section of the newsletter anymore. We are going to maintain the Personals section as a place you can post messages to your friends, but most people seem to be using the chatlist and the Delphi Forum message boards to keep in touch.

By way of publication news, Take a Thief will be out in Mass Market Paperback in October 2002. Elvenborn: Halfblood Chronicles, Bk. 3 (which Misty co-authored with Andre Norton) is scheduled for release in August 2002.

1. When did you join Queen's Own?

   August 2001.

2. What got you hooked on Misty's books?

   I ran across one in the bookstore, and, as I was looking for a new fantasy series, I bought it (It was the Gryphon series.) After those, I was hooked, and I now own every Velgarth novel she has put out, including the new Valdemar Companion and the short story books.

3. What else do you read?

   Just about everything: literature like Shakespeare, fiction, mystery, fantasy . . . A better question would be what do I not read.

4. What types of music do you listen to?

   Again, there is not much I don't like. I think rap and heavy metal are the only two I don't have in my collection. I just recently discovered Misty's filk, so I am in the process of finding that right now.

5. What movies do you enjoy?

   Comedy is my favorite. If I am going to sit still for that long, I want to be amused.

6. What was the first con you went to?

   Sadly to say, I have yet to attend any. No time and none close by.

7. Why did you get involved in fandom?

   I wanted to learn more about the books and interact with people who love them as much as I do.

8. What do you like best about fandom?

   The community. This is the only place I can say something like "I wish my Mindspeech was stronger," or "When will we find out more about Alberich?" and not get funny looks.

9. What other things besides Queen's Own occupy your time?

   Well, work mostly. I am an Assistant Editor at a magazine. Other than that, I read, cross-stitch (if anyone knows where I can get some Valdemar-related projects, let me know!) and hang out with friends. [Ed. note: Misty designed a couple of cross-stitch patterns that went out in old QO newsletters. Are people interested in having us try to figure out how to make those available to you online?]

10. What types of things would you like to see Queen's Own do in the coming years?

    Well, I am looking forward to the cookbook . . . Other than that, maybe have live chats with ML if she is willing.

Heyla all-

I have not disappeared despite evidence to the contrary. I have been overly busy. I did go on vacation to Colorado and Wyoming for a week. I put 3000 miles on my pickup in 8 days. <WOW>

My divorce is getting ugly and taking lots of energy from me. On the bright side, my ex has now moved to Ventura a good two hours north and the distance will make my life a bit easier.

I also moved to a little smaller place with much cheaper rent, and my boyfriend moved in with me. This was an unexpected development but has turned out to be very nice. I was surprised with a great number of things in this relationship but am excited at the same time.

I am finishing my latest class, "Business Systems Analysis 2" and it has an overwhelming amount of information. I know it will make much more sense after I take a few more classes! <Grin>

In my off week before I start the next class, I plan to finish unpacking, catching up with e-mail (Sorry to some of you who have not heard from me in a month.), updating my website . . .ummmm . . . I think that may even be too much. <Grin>

I will become more caught up with everyone I promise!
