Heyla, Misty fans!

Hope you all are having a great summer!

Appearance Alert: Mercedes Lackey will be the Guest of Honor at the WRITER'S WEEKEND in Mercer Island, Washington, 7/25/03 - 7/27/03. See their ad in the Con section below for details. Both Misty and Larry will be appearing at CON†STELLATION XXII: PEGASUS in Huntsville, Alabama, 10/10/03-10/12/03. See their ad in the Con section as well.

Travel Plans: Danya will be traveling to Las Vegas, Dinosaur National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Pocatello (Idaho) and Lake Tahoe from July 19-August 3. She may or may not have e-mail access during that time (We’re still working on that.). Please pardon delays in response time! She’ll get back to you on queries as soon as she can. Also, this means that the August newsletter will definitely be late, since she won’t have time to compile it <G>. If you happen to live somewhere along that route and want to meet for coffee or dessert or something, do let her know at Legend@malcor.com, and she’ll try to set up something with you.

Birthday Wishes: Happy Birthday to Misty (June 24) and Larry (July 28). If you wish to send cards, please use their business address: Mercedes Lackey or Larry Dixon, c/o High Flight Arts and Letters, P.O. Box 2970, Claremore, OK 74017. (The QO PO Box in Laguna Beach, CA is only for business mail intended for QO. We don’t handle mail for Misty and Larry.)

Publication News: Coming up from Misty: Mad Maudlin (with Rosemary Edghill), The Shadow of the Lion (anthology), The Outstretched Shadow: The Obsidian Trilogy: Book One (with James Mallory), Exile’s Valor (October 2003), Exile’s Honor (Mass Market Paperback, October 2003), Elvenborn (with Andre Norton, Mass Market Paperback, October 2003), Charmed Destinies (anthology, November 2003), Brain Ships (edited by Anne McCaffrey, anthology), Sun in Glory (Valdermar anthology, December 2003), This Rough Magic, The Fairy Godmother (January 2004), and Stoned Souls (with Josepha Sherman). Yes, Misty has been very busy . Keep watch for these new releases at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/bkfanml.htm. Remember, a portion of all purchases made through the Dragonlords’ Bookstore goes to Queen’s Own. This is how we keep our memberships free, so we truly appreciate your support!

E-mail Change Reminder: As of June 30th, Moonstar’s e-mail address will be healermoon@gmail.com. (Comcast bought her current provider.) Make sure you update your records!

Midsummer Festival: Thanks to everyone who showed up at our online Midsummer Festival! We had a great time! Members of the QO chat list are tossing around times and ideas for another RP. If you would like to join the list, QO members may do so at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qochat.htm. (We also send alerts about events and other stuff that pops up between newsletters to that list, so if you want to keep current, join the list!)

Zhai'helleva and Happy Fourth of July,

Herald-Mage Adept Danya Winterborn and Healer Adept Moonstar

  • Austral'a'in: Editor: Cassandra Vuksa. We print fiction (both fanfic on Velgarth and other fantasy stories), poetry, art, reviews, recipes, articles, personas, pen pal ads and stacks more! This fanzine is up for adoption. Austral'a'in is up for adoption. If you are interested in adopting the chapter, contact Cassandra Vuksa, garou@netspeed.com.au.

  • Children of Velgarth: Editor: Kendra Renaud, P.O. Box 749, Laguna Beach, CA 92652. I publish new and old personae, even previously published persona if asked by members in this new, official QO zine. I will only accept what was sent in for your persona to Queen's Own to be recognized. Any fan fiction written later should be sent to one of the other zines who really need it to keep their zines going. This fanzine will be published periodically when it reaches 80 pages or so to keep costs at $5.00 payable in U.S. funds or 12 IRCs. Make checks payable to "Kendra Renaud". The fee covers the cost of printing and mailing; you may share (but not duplicate!) copies of the fanzine. Watch the Queen's Own newsletter for release dates. Volume 2, Issue 2 is now available! For the contents list and additional information, visit http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qozine.htm. (Special Note: Make sure you use the P.O. Box Address and not my home address since I’m moving at the end of May. I don’t want any orders to go astray.)

  • Companions' Grove: Editor: Devin Harris (Blue Devyn). Companions' Grove still needs stories and artists…particularly artists willing to illustrate stories! ! (Remember, all contributors get a free copy of the zine in which their work appears.) Volumes Seven and Eight are full, and awaiting the illustrations and final layout. Volume Nine is open to submissions. Unfortunately, I’ve had to increase some prices, due to an increase in the cost of running the zines and another upcoming postal increase. Current prices (not including shipping within the U.S.) are:

    • Companions' Grove Volume One - $4.00 ($4.75 with color cover)
    • Companions' Grove Volume Two - $5.60 ($6.35 with color cover)
    • Companions' Grove Volume Three - $5.20 ($5.95 with color cover)
    • Companions' Grove Volume Four - $4.20 ($4.95 with color cover)
    • Companions' Grove Volume Five - $7.00 ($7.75 with color cover)
    • Companions' Grove Volume Six - $5.80 ($6.55 with color cover)
    • Companions' Grove Volume Seven - $5.20 ($5.95 with color cover)
    • The Danya Winterborn Saga - $5.20
    • Endgame - $3.85
    • Fire Eyes - $4.40
    • Shards of Autumn - $3.90
    • The Sum of Duty - $5.80
    • Do or Dye: A Guide to Companion Camouflage - $1.25
    • Cat's Cradle - $7.60

For orders shipping in the US, I've instituted a maximum shipping cost of $3.85. Multi-zine orders which can be shipped in a flat rate envelope will be sent Priority Mail; larger orders will be sent Media Mail Insured, which is only slightly slower and doesn't have the zone rates (which wouldn't work with my shopping cart). Smaller orders will be sent First Class.

I take credit cards via PayPal, which is the cart's only payment option, but the cart can be used to calculate shipping, and checks/money orders mailed to Green Dragon Press, c/o Devin Harris, 4531 N Kelishan St, Pahrump, NV 89060.

Zines are printed on high-quality, bright white paper, comb bound, with cardstock covers. Story excerpts and cover art-as well as international pricing, submission guidelines, and PayPal ordering information-can be found at http://www.greendragonpress.net/misty.htm . To order via snail mail, send check or money order (payable to Devin Harris; US funds only) to Green Dragon Press, c/o Devin Harris, 4531 N. Kelishan St., Pahrump, NV 89060. People outside the US should go directly to http://www.greendragonpress.net/international.htm and check out the price break for buying zines in threes, before they go to the main page and get scared by the per-zine shipping.

Collegium News:

We have individual handouts for aspiring Heralds, Healers, Bards, Blues, Mercenaries, Tayledras, Shin'a'in, and White Winds Sorcerers/Sorceresses and instructions on how to work for Herald-Mage status if you are already a Herald or for a Kal'enedral if you are already a Shin'a'in. You can find these handouts online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qohandouts.htm.

You need a release form (online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qomlrel2.htm) if you write a story set in Misty's worlds or using any of her characters. You do not need a release for a character sketch, poem or filk. All Misty wants to do is protect her characters and her worlds. Send the release form (you do NOT need to include the story) to Misty c/o High Flight Arts and Letters, P.O. Box 2970, Claremore, OK 74017. Do NOT include the original of the release form with your persona material; send it to Misty. Send a copy to us.

All personae materials should be sent to the QO address or submitted by e-mail to Legend@malcor.com and healermoon@gmail.com.

  • Welcome, Herald Kelles, Chosen by Solari and Gifted with strong Mindspeech, strong Foresight, and strong Firestarting. Elizabeth Vines wrote about Kelles and her family and friends, wrote an additional story, composed three poems and learned to ride a horse.

If you are a returning member who has recently activated your membership in Queen’s Own and we have forgotten to list you, message Danya at Legend@malcor.com, and she’ll make sure you are greeted in the next newsletter.

From Healer Adept Moonstar:

I have been so busy with schoolwork ::sigh::. Sometimes it sucks to be a senior <grin>. I am sure you guys notice the week I am not in school as I send out a flurry of e-mails to try to remain caught up.

I dislocated my shoulder in late June; yes, it was the one that I just had surgery on. I am not sure why it popped out; I was not lifting anything heavy, just reaching for something. I will be going back to the doctor to see what happened. Anyway it is back in the socket but very, very sore.

I wish I had some great stories to tell you, but I don't. I have been living and breathing networking homework. My class ends July 9th, and I will be sending out e-mail. Then I start with my second networking class on the 17th. All the hard work is paying off as I am keeping a GPA over 3.5.

My son is enjoying his summer break, and I am hoping to get him to Disneyland a couple of times before our passes expire in July <grin>.

Keep in touch everyone!

Hugs-

Moonstar
